In the quest to understand the environment, learning and experience have allowed us to reach beyond direct, visible matter and begin to understand the essence of physical and psychological phenomena around us.
The relationship between the worm and acorn demonstrates how independent agents can operate in an environment to facilitate conditions from which seeds can sprout into complex living organisms. The metaphor is further extended to the operation of the mind from which thoughts amalgamate and grow into abstract ideas, which germinate into actions that push us closer to the right wall (maximum complexity given the constraints of our universe) through technological innovation. While moving toward the boundary of complexity, we simultaneously search for the left wall (or least complex phenomena) by studying subatomic particles, genetic codes, and universal laws that govern the interaction of all physical and living matter.
Without the discovery of either the right or the left wall, our universe remains unbounded, allowing us to walk comfortably in both directions and increase complexity through innovation while learning to simplify existence. Both paths are necessary for humanity to reach the highest potential and evolve toward higher consciousness.
Ironically, the mere ambiguity created by the duality of matter and essence often frightens people into building artificial walls, which block the search inward for truth. When those artificial constructs become reality, we lose touch with our essence and are left blind, able to observe only the matter at hand.
