Drawing on Wisdom: The Art of Willem Vee
ANATOMY OF A FRIEND STUDYING THE REALM OF KINGS
30 by 40 inches
The legacy of learning commences in a classroom, where a child stares out of the window and contemplates the plight of kings in an abstract daydream drifting away into the clear blue sky. Who knows why his imagination and ingenuity are being stripped by the parochial mandates of an educational theocracy, where students are promised salvation provided that they abide by a few simple rules.

Who is the winner and who is the loser in an environment where the might of kings is an intricate façade constructed by a wily pawn, yielding vested power through an illusory deity? As the young child’s dream detaches from a crumbling Earth and drifts into a clear blue sky, we find life grandest for those who can find the wherewithal to rise above the master-slave morality and live outside of the box.

[The child’s dream portion of the drawing is based on a pencil illustration completed by artist Glen Plourde titled The Realm of Kings, which was miniaturized and interpreted by adding shape, color, and realism.]
